Lady Abercorn’s Pub & Kitchen.

This warm, handsome pub and eatery located within walking distance of Liverpool Street attracts locals and tourists alike. Named after a local, sassy landlady, Lady Abercorn’s is revered as much for its food as its generous offering of beers, ales, and ciders, with traditional classics like fish and chips and their stacked Angus beef burger stealing the show. With a quirky collection of communal tables, Lady Abercorn’s is a great place to natter away with locals and meet some interesting people.

The Lord Aberconway

A traditional London boozer since the nineteenth century, The Lord Aberconway is a Nicholson’s pub these days and the perfect place to grab a pint of real ale. Bedecked with a carved wooden balustrade on its mezzanine level and a wonderful ornate ceiling, there’s something charming about stepping inside the Lord Aberconway, and it’s the perfect place to get a feel for London’s traditional pub scene. There’s a hearty food menu, too, if you fancy a traditional pub meal alongside your IPA.

Grapeshots

Hidden down Artillery Passage near Liverpool Street, Grapeshots is an intimate pub with a fully stocked wine cellar, and a trip here is an experience in itself. Grapeshots food menu is a slightly upmarket take on traditional British pub fayre but still primarily consists of classics like fish and chips, bangers and mash, and some juicy burgers. It’s said that Jack the Ripper once walked the alleyway that is home to Grapeshots, adding an eerie dimension to this quaintly decorated London speakeasy.

Located between Liverpool Street and Shoreditch, Dirty Dicks has been a mainstay of this part of London since 1745. Their Sunday roast is worth the visit alone, which attracts people from all over the city to indulge in this classic British tradition. Set over three floors, there’s plenty of room at Dirty Dicks for office gatherings or special celebrations, and there’s always a lively atmosphere, regardless of the time of day or week. You can also sample a whole range of craft and cask beers here, making it a proper drinker’s pub for those in the know.

The Magpie

The second Nicholson offering included on this list; The Magpie is housed in the building of a former ambulance station within a short walk of Liverpool Street station. Although there’s nothing overly special about the Magpie, that’s what makes it the ideal place to enjoy a pint and some pub grub. It’s a traditional London pub with great beer, great food, and reasonable prices, so there’s very little not to like about the Magpie. The perfect place for catching up with friends in the city.

Kings Arms

If we had a pound for every British pub called the Kings Arms! Liverpool Street’s Kings Arms is run by Greene King, serving up delicious pints of their signature IPA and Old Speckled Hen, as well as a range of guest beers, ciders, and lagers. The food menu here includes everything you would expect from a traditional London pub, and while it might not excite the locals, it delivers on quality and is made to perfection. A bit like the Magpie, don’t expect fireworks and exotic dancers at the Kings Arms, but do expect superb beer and delicious food. What more could you ask for?
